Last year's Clean Week 2020 hosted elections as well. A winner was chosen in the category E-Bike, the E-Scooter, the E-Bicyle and the E-Quadricyle. Everyone is full of the electric car, but also more and more alternatives are arriving on the scene for the two-wheelers and quadricycles. A jury of thirteen specialised European motor journalists gathered in Zolder for extensive testing of not only electrical driven scooters (Vectric, IO, E-Max, Goves, Dumco, Noveco, Emco, Solex, Symm) but they also put off-road motorcycles (QVR and Zero) and speed motorcycles such as Zero and Mavizen on the grill. With about 30 e-motorcycles and e-scooters we reached a first goal in 2011, which was getting the different makes interested in this organization. However, e-bikes are still in the development phase and some makes were not yet ready for the confrontation with what is presently available on the market. Next year's edition we will be able to attract more candidates, because also the two-wheelers's future will be more and more oriented towards electrical - and thus ecologically powered vehicles. The Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations, FEMA, was co-chairing the first edition of the European eBike and EScooter of the Year. Aline Delhaye, General Secretary, explains why motorcycle and scooter users support alternative-energy powered two wheelers: Whenever electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles are mentioned, professionals and members of the public always picture a car. But no-emission two-wheelers hold as much promise as cars, if not more as:
A new type of election was launched in 2011, in the slipstream of an existing concept of the Flemish Automobile Club VAB. VAB, AutoGids, Effective Media and Clean Week 2020 (by Circuit Zolder) presented for the very first time the ‘Clean Car of the Year’, also known as ‘Groene Wagen van het Jaar - Voiture Verte de l’Année’. The organization and the jury awarded the title of Clean Car of the Year 2011 to the Mitsubishi iMiev (city) and the Lexus CT200h (fleet), in their proper categories. The introduction of electric, hybrid and low emission cars is without any doubt the strongest in these segments. The first edition counted 15 candidates for both categories. The 2012 edition of Clean Car of the Year involved a third (overall) award, based on ‘well to wheel’ evaluation. Announcement of the awards was held at the Brussels Motor Show, January 10, 2012 at 11 a.m.

This election is an initiative of Circuit Zolder and its Truck Grand Prix event in cooperation with partners such as the press as well as federations involved in the logistics sector. All the nominees will be evaluated on the Zolder Circuit by a panel of professional journalists on September 20th and 21st, 2012 and the winners will be announced on September 21st at a symposium of the 2012 ˜Clean Transport Day" preceeding the Truck Grand Prix. The election contains several categories, such as, but not limited to: tractor unit (+ trailer), motor truck, light truck and van. For each of the categories a specific jury will compose and set evaluation criteria and evaluate the inscriptions by these criteria. Clearly concept vehicles will also be accepted in the 2012 elections and we expect that in the following years more weight will be given to commercialized vehicles versus concepts. The election will happen according to these criteria based on technical specifications and an argumentation file which has to be delivered by every participant.
