Flanders is strongly investing in sustainable mobility with a view to improving livability in our region. In this respect, a key role is also assigned to the development and adoption of green energy. Flanders is a small region, which is perfectly suited for pilot projects, as it turns out. Many research institutions and companies choose Flanders to set up trial environments for testing new, green technology. The strategy of Circuit Zolder perfectly fits into this trend. They have a track on which green vehicles can be tested and are planning on making maximum use of sustainable energy. As such, Circuit Zolder is a major asset to Flanders and contributing to the realization of the sustainable mobility objective.

Hugo Leroi

Circuit Zolder is preparing its future role in mobility issues, from R&D to competition. Already today, car manufacturers and police forces, federations, clubs and private companies, ... use the track facilities to develop skills, knowledge and procedures on technology, driving, car, bicycle and motorcycle control, amateur and professional racing. The Zolder racetrack is more than a race track. On our 50th anniversary, we are facing the future and develop an adapted role as a whole: a 'wheels' center based on sustainable principles.

Thierry Deflandre

The innovative strategy was developed more than 10 years ago but is in 5th gear at the moment. The development of the Clean Week 2020 concept was the first 'physical' proof of the ambition. The event was originated in 1999, but the first full event took place in 2009 and is to be organised yearly at least until 2020. Lowering Circuit Zolder's ecological footprint is embedded in our vision as well. We buy 100 % certified renewable energy since 2008 and step by step, we are adapting the Circuit Zolder fleet to low emission, HV, EV or PHV cars (since 2009). A PV tracker installation is installed, producing about 30% of the yearly electricity consumption of Circuit Zolder. Our target is to initiate EV and PHV testing, development and racing by installing EV charging systems in the paddock and pitlane area.

See you next year, in 2014
